This is the well-preserved ancient dwellings of Ming and Qing Dynasties in Shiwan, which is a provincial-level cultural relics protection unit in Guangdong.
 These ancient dwellings were also the big houses where the rich people of Shiwan used to live. There are typical characteristics of Lingnan dwellings: the brick wall, the stone foundation and the bar door, solid in structure, moisture-proof and antitheft. There is another saying that the high foundation is the representation of fortune. This bar door is like our current security door. The house will be hot if the door is closed because of the hot weather in Guangdong, but there may be theft if the door is open. So such door is made for ventilation and antitheft.
