In order to effectively implement the "Reform Program for the Construction of Industrial Worker Teams in the New Era", carry out the construction of "knowledge, skill, and innovation" labor force, carry forward the spirit of model workers and craftsmen, and further promote the creative development and inheritance of clay sculptures in Guangdong, this contest is co-sponsored by the Guangdong Provincial Federation of Trade Unions, the Guangdong Provincial Department of Human Resources and Social Affairs, the Guangdong Provincial Department of Science and Technology, and the Guangdong Department of Industry and Information Technology, and co-organized by the Guangdong College of Craftsmen, the Guangdong Provincial Arts and Crafts Association, and Guangdong Arts and Crafts Co., Ltd., and also supported by the Foshan Federation of Trade Unions and the Foshan Arts and Crafts Association.

The contest is composed of two stages, the theoretical examination and the on-site creation, with the high standards and great influence. The organizing committee hopes to promote the training of high-skilled craftsmen and build a brand of vocational skills contest in Guangdong through the post-based training system.

Ms. Bai Ling, Supervisor of the Guangdong's Association for Promotion of Cooperation between Guangdong, Hong Kong & Macao and former Secretary of Southern Media Group, addressed in her speech that the intensive cooperation between the Guangdong's Association for Promotion of Cooperation between Guangdong, Hong Kong & Macao and the Guangdong College of Craftsmen in this year would set up a platform for the exchanges and skills demonstration of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area among the Guangdong industry and employees through "finding the craftsman elite and promoting the spirit of craftsmen". She also hoped that the schools and associations could hold more contests to promote the vigorous development of the cultural industry; the industry associations could support local clay craftsmen and serve the production activities of craftsmen; and the clay craftsmen could study hard and create the excellent works favored by the public!

Wang Xuezhen, Deputy Director of the Finance and Asset Management Department of the Guangdong Provincial Federation of Trade Unions and Executive Dean of the Guangdong College of Craftsmen, mentioned in a speech at the launching ceremony that the gold medalists of this contest would be the eligible applicants for the “May 1 Labor Medal” in accordance with the procedures, reflecting the cares of the Guangdong Provincial Federation of Trade Unions to the workers in the arts and crafts industry.
 

Kong Zhaoming, Vice President and Secretary General of Guangdong Provincial Arts and Crafts Association, addressed the importance of the cultivation of arts and crafts talents in his speech, and also mentioned that the inheritance and development of arts and crafts should be guided by the outstanding professional and technical talents. It is an important task of the new age for the Arts and Crafts Industry Association to cultivate the talents of arts and crafts with certain cultural accomplishments and strong hands-on skills, who are skillful and good at innovative design. The skill contest is one of the effective means to cultivate and discover the talents of arts and crafts.

After the launching ceremony, a total of 82 participants throughout the province gathered in the Ancient Nanfeng Kiln at Shiwan and competed on the same stage, focusing on the contest theme of "serving as a good master for excellent achievements in new era". With great efforts in seven hours, they created a large number of high-quality and high-level clay sculpture masterpieces. The jury of this contest was selected and organized by the organizing committee, and led by Liang Jinling, Chinese Master of Arts and Crafts. The jury members included Yang Ruihua, Huang Zhiwei and Zhai Huiling, Chinese Masters of Arts and Crafts, Huo Jiarong, Chinese Master of Art and Craft Industry, Feng Weimin, Chinese Master of Pottery Art, and Tang Qi, Professor-level Senior Engineer of Pottery. They finally determined 1 first prize, 4 second prizes, 6 third prizes, and 8 excellent prizes.
